The Sir John Storey Award Uniface Medallion in Silver by Andor Mezaros
Named after Sir John Storey (1896–1955), a prominent Australian industrialist and managing director of Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC). Storey was known for modernising Australian industry during and after World War II and for his leadership in promoting technological development and design excellence.
The award was typically presented by the Industrial Design Council of Australia (IDCA) from the 1950s through the 1970s, and it became one of the most prestigious national honours for industrial design and craftsmanship.
Notably, several Australian sculptors and designers — including Andor Meszaros — received the Sir John Storey Award for excellence in medal and coin design. The award recognised not only aesthetic quality but also innovation in form, function, and production technique.
