This silver 8 Reales coin, struck in 1817 at the Mexico City Mint, features the laureate bust of King Ferdinand VII of Spain with the legend “FERDIN VII DEI GRATIA,” meaning “Ferdinand VII by the Grace of God.”
The reverse displays the crowned Spanish arms between the Pillars of Hercules, inscribed “HISPAN ET IND REX Mo 8R HJ,” signifying “King of Spain and the Indies.” The motto “PLVS VLTRA” translates to “Further Beyond.”
