The 1894A German New Guinea Silver 2 Mark was struck at the Berlin Mint for use in Germany’s Pacific colony of New Guinea. Composed of .900 fine silver, it features the imperial German eagle on the obverse and a decorative tropical design with crossed palm branches and native plants on the reverse. Issued only between 1894 and 1895, the series represented Germany’s effort to establish a distinct colonial coinage. Withdrawn after the adoption of the German colonial rupie, the 2 Mark is now a prized rarity among collectors, admired for its elegant engraving and historical colonial connection.
