The 1894A German New Guinea Silver 1 Mark is a rare colonial coin issued under German administration for use in the Pacific territory of New Guinea. Struck in Berlin (“A” mintmark), it features the imperial German eagle on the obverse and tropical motifs—palm branches and native flora—on the reverse, symbolizing Germany’s overseas ambitions. Composed of .900 fine silver, the coin is part of a short-lived series minted between 1894 and 1895 before being withdrawn when the mark was replaced by the German colonial rupie. Today, it is highly sought after for its artistry and historical significance.
