This silver medallion, issued to commemorate the bicentenary of Captain Cook’s death, measures 51mm and was crafted by Imago of Surrey, England, with the edge impressed “HJF” and fully hallmarked. The obverse features a detailed bust of Captain Cook in uniform, facing left, with a globe beside him and the route of his Pacific explorations highlighted on a map, symbolising his monumental voyages. The reverse presents a vivid scene of Cook’s ship, the Endeavour, anchored near shore, where a group of Indigenous people is depicted alongside two figures in a canoe. A kangaroo and native fruits are also included at the side of the ship’s sails, capturing the essence of Cook’s encounters and the unique wildlife of the lands he explored.
