The Mahogany Glider (Petaurus gracilis) is an endangered marsupial found only in a small area of coastal Queensland, Australia. Named for its rich brown fur, it can glide over 100 metres between trees using a skin membrane stretched from wrist to ankle. Habitat loss from land clearing has severely reduced its range, leaving fragmented populations vulnerable. With fewer than 2,000 estimated in the wild, the species faces ongoing threats. Some local populations are thought to have already become extinct.
