The 1914 Sydney Mint Gold Sovereign was struck during the reign of King George V, shortly before Australia entered the First World War. The Sydney Mint, established in 1855, had by this time been producing British gold coinage for almost six decades.
The coin features George V’s bare-headed portrait by Sir E. B. Mackennal on the obverse, with Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the Dragon on the reverse. Struck in 22-carat gold, it reflects Australia’s colonial monetary heritage.
