1887 GB Queen Victoria Jubilee Double Florin gEF
Tax included.
The 1887 Queen Victoria Jubilee Double Florin was issued during the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, featuring her crowned Jubilee portrait. Struck in sterling silver, the coin carried a value of four shillings and was intended to simplify transactions. However, it quickly earned the nickname “Barmaid’s Ruin” due to its similarity in size and appearance to the crown coin. Bar staff frequently confused the two, accidentally giving five shillings change instead of four, leading to costly mistakes and the coin’s short-lived circulation popularity.
